This fantastic hexalogy covers a period of 5000 years and is one of the largest epics in the history of world fiction. The last book of hexalogy does not complete the cycle - Frank Herbert planned to write another, final novel. The writer’s son, Brian Herbert , co-authored with another famous science fiction writer, Kevin Anderson, wrote two sequel novels based on surviving drafts - “ Dune Hunters ” and “ Dune Sandworms ”.

The cycle is also adjoined by Frank Herbert's story “The Path to the Dune” from the book “Eye”, published in 1985.
