Embassy of Vladislavich

The Embassy of Vladislavich is the Russian Embassy under the leadership of S. L. Raguzinsky-Vladislavich to China , fulfilling its mission in 1725-1728.

In 1724, the Manchu emperor of China Yinzhen sent his representatives to the Russian-Chinese border with a message about the desire of the Qing Empire to maintain eternal peace with Russia and a proposal to send ambassadors to discuss disputed issues.

In June 1725, the Russian government sent S. L. Raguzinsky-Vladislavich, who was appointed plenipotentiary ambassador to Qing China, to settle trade and border relations. The Embassy of Vladislavich arrived in Beijing on October 21, 1726. The Russian ambassador was received with great honor by the emperor of China.

From October 1726 to April 1727, negotiations were held with representatives of the Qing Empire. The main issue was the borders that were not defined by the Nerchinsk Treaty of 1689. The Qing side made claims on territories populated by Russian subjects, which in the past had never been Chinese possessions. Over 30 conferences with Chinese representatives and two audience with Emperor Yinzhen did not give the parties the desired results. Nevertheless, the Russian ambassador rejected the mentioned claims of the Chinese side on Russian territories and achieved recognition of the principle "every state owns what it has."

After a short break, negotiations on the proposal of S. L. Raguzinsky-Vladislavich were resumed in June on the Bure River, where the Burinsky delineation agreement was signed on August 20 ( 31 ), 1727 . On October 21, 1727, on the basis of the preliminary conditions worked out at the negotiations on the Burinsky Treaty, the authorized parties drew up a new treaty, the draft of which was sent to Beijing for approval. The exchange of texts took place on June 14, 1728 on the Kyakhta River, in connection with which this agreement is known as Kyakhtinsky .
