Pharmacological action
Antitussive, mucolytic. Dextromethorphan has an antitussive effect. Inhibiting the excitability of the cough center, suppresses cough of any origin. It does not have a narcotic (with dosed use), painkiller and sleeping pills. The onset of action is 10-30 minutes after administration, the duration is 5-6 hours in adults and up to 6-9 hours in children. Terpinghydrate has an expectorant effect, increases the secretory function of the epithelial glands of the respiratory tract, increases the volume of secretion and reduces the viscosity of the secreted secretion. Levomenthol has a moderate antispasmodic effect. It alleviates the condition with the appearance of symptoms of acute rhinitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis and bronchitis.
Pharmacokinetics: After oral administration, dextromethorphan is completely absorbed in the digestive tract, metabolized in the liver. Cmax in blood plasma is reached after 2 hours. Up to 45% of dextromethorphan can be excreted in the urine. Terpinghydrate is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration. The drug circulates in the blood unchanged and is excreted through the respiratory tract, with urine and sweat, to which it gives a specific smell. Part of the drug is oxidized in the body and excreted in the urine in the form of phenols along with glucuronic acid.
Description of the dosage form: A brown liquid without any foreign particles, with a characteristic taste and smell.
Vacation from pharmacies: From 2008-2009, Glycodin, an earlier prescription drug, began to be issued with the status of "Without a doctor’s prescription." Recently, in some pharmacies began to sell on prescription.
