History

The company was founded in 1898. In 1928, the company began manufacturing metal windows for industrial buildings. In 1932, the company became an open joint stock company.

In 1945, the company VEstjysk STaalteknik A / S (abbreviated as Vestas) began the production of household metal products: mixers, containers, etc. Since 1950, the company has been producing agricultural machinery. In 1960, the company employs 120 people.

In the 1970s, the company faced marketing difficulties due to oil shocks . In 1978, Vestas experts began to develop a wind turbine .

The company installed its first wind turbine in 1979. In 1980, Vestas began mass production of 55 kW turbines. In 1983, the company opened a branch in the United States, Vestas North America, Ltd. By the end of 1985, Vestas had sold 2,500 turbines in the United States.

At the end of 1986, Vestas Wind Systems A / S was established.

In November 1991, the company built its thousandth turbine in Denmark.

1994 - 765 employees in the company.

1995 - the company builds an offshore wind generator. For the whole of 1996, the company produced wind generators with a total capacity of 303 MW.

In 2000, Vestas took 32% of the global wind generator market. This year, the company sold 1,434 MW of wind generators, while the global market amounted to 4,500 MW.

2002 - Vestas sets up a prototype of its 3 MW turbine.

2003 - Vestas share in the global market for wind generators is 23%. In 2009, the company's share in the world market was 12.5% [4] .

In June 2010, the company began developing foundations for offshore wind turbines, which will be built on sections of the sea with a depth of up to 70 meters [5] .

In 2010, the company ranked first in the world in terms of total capacity produced per year of equipment - 5842 MW [6] .

In 2011, the company revealed the details of an offshore turbine V-164 with a capacity of 7.0 MW, which was later re-marked for a nominal capacity of 8 MW [7] .

In 2017, Vestas installed a 9.5MW wind generator off the coast of Great Britain , which is currently the most powerful wind generator in the world [8] .
