History
XIX century [1] [2]
The first attempts to operate omnibuses, the predecessors of buses, in Kiev were made at the end of the XVIII century . Although in the second half of the 19th century Kiev was one of the foremost cities of the Russian Empire, the city did not have passenger transport, except for the cabs.
In 1879, the entrepreneur Levin purchased 7 omnibuses, designed to carry 8 passengers, and began their operation in Kiev. Despite the cheapness of the fare compared to the cabs, this type of transport soon ceased to exist. The fault was the unsatisfactory technical condition of the omnibuses and their lack on the streets. The then omnibuses can be compared with the current freight minibuses, which carry twice as many passengers as the vehicle can.
Twentieth century
At the end of the first decade of the 20th century, the City Duma developed a project for the commissioning of eight bus lines in Kiev with transfer to concession. But to fully implement this project failed due to the lack of entrepreneurs who are ready to invest in such a dubious and costly event. At that time, a tram with an extensive network flourished in Kiev, and the bus company could simply burn out.
Attempts to introduce bus traffic in Kiev were made twice: in 1911 and 1913 , but after some time the operation of bus lines ended, and this type of transport did not win the trust of the Kievites. These buses were located on the territory of the Lukyanovsky tram park.
The existing bus system dates back to December 10, 1925 with the opening of the route of Sq. ІІІ Internatsionala - ul. L. Pyatakova (current European square - Saksaganskogo street).
During the Great Patriotic War, the bus interrupted its work. He resumed work again in June 1946, the first bus depot, still existing, was opened. The 2nd park was opened in 1959, and six more bus depots were later opened. In 1975, 365 million people were transported by bus in Kiev, more than any other type of public transport (trolleybus - 339.3 million people, trams - 339.1 million people, metro - 204.6 million people), [3] the cost of transporting one passenger was 4.9 kopecks. [3]
During the heyday of urban bus services in the second half of the 1980s, over 1000 buses operated during 110 rush hour routes. In the first half of the 1990s, there was a decline in bus traffic.
In 2010, about 90 municipal bus routes operated in Kiev. The number of buses on routes did not exceed 400 units. There were 8 bus fleets. The fare was 1 hryvnia 50 kopecks.
In the period from 2011 to 2015, four bus fleets were closed in the city (1, 3, 4 and 7).
As of August 1, 2017, there are four bus fleets: two on the right bank ( bus fleet No. 5 and bus fleet No. 8) and two on the left bank ( bus fleet No. 2 and bus fleet No. 6 ).

To pay for travel in Kiev, you can use a one-time ticket, which gives the right to one trip, or a ticket for the duration. Also, with the introduction of the city train, there are combined tickets for a single trip in the city train and buses No. 59 and 61.
From January 31, 2011 a single ticket costs 1 hryvnia 50 kopecks .
From February 7, 2015, a single ticket costs 3 hryvnias.
From July 15, 2017 - 4 hryvnias . Combined ticket for city train and bus - 7 hryvnia .

One-time tickets for the bus, as well as for other types of transport, can be purchased at bus stops at ticket booths or in the cabin of the conductor or driver. Tickets can be purchased at stops at ticket booths for a month or the second half of the month.
All buses of the city, except for buses of a small class and buses which are removed from a taxi, are equipped with mechanical composters. Buses of bus fleet No. 6 are equipped with electronic punchers. However, by the end of 2018, all buses in Kiev will also have to be equipped with electronic composters to introduce an electronic ticket system [4] .
Route mode and schedule
Most of the city’s routes start working at 6:00 and finish at mainly from 22:00 - 23:00. Some routes like No. 99 and 101 start at 4.50 and end at 1.00.
Social routes, for example routes No. 5, No. 77, or No. 79, begin work at 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. and end before evening PIK: 3 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Most routes operate on weekdays, as well as on weekends and holidays. Only a few routes operate exclusively on weekdays. Some of these routes operate only at PIC hour.
Also in the city there is one night bus route No. 137 [5] , whose work starts at 22.00 and ends at 5.33.
All bus routes have a strict schedule [6] on weekdays and weekends, which indicate the departure / arrival time at the final and key stops during the day of the route. The schedule also indicates the time of arrival or departure of buses on the route, as well as the time of lunch.
On each route, the number of buses and the number of issues that operate on the route are registered.

Most of Kiev's routes are serviced by large-class buses, which are represented mainly by the LAZ-A183 and MAZ-203 buses [8] . These buses are found on most of the city’s routes, ranging from less popular routes (as route No. 2) to very popular (as route No. 102 or No. 114).
Buses of a particularly large class are also found on most routes of the city, but most often they are spread out on different routes. A large concentration of such buses is found on the routes of Bus Depot No. 6 , which serves densely populated areas like Troeschina or Vinogradar . Such routes are also present in other parks, but in the minority. For example, in Bus depot No. 2, routes No. 45, 51; in the bus fleet number 5 route number 23.
Small class buses are used on routes with low passenger traffic. Small-class buses Bogdan A091 and Bogdan A092 are found on the less popular routes of all parks, except for 8. For example, routes No. 2, 47, 59, 78. It is possible to use buses of both large and especially large classes on routes with a small flow vice versa. Buses of the middle class of Bogdan A144 are not found on the routes and are transferred to work by minibuses. The last route where buses of this model met was No. 43k (operated until July 7, 2018 ) [9] .
It is not uncommon for buses operating on a communal route to be used on taxi or suburban routes.
