History
The company was founded on September 29, 2006 when Koninklijke Philips Electronics NV sold an 80.1% stake in its former semiconductor division to a consortium of private investors, which included Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR), Bain Capital , Silver Lake Partners, Apax and AlpInvest Partners NV Philips retained a 19.9% stake.
At the time the company was founded in 2006, it included 5 business units: Consumer Electronics , Automotive Electronics , Identification Systems , Mobile and Personal Devices, and General-Use Components (MultiMarket Semiconductors )
In March 2015, NXP Semiconductors announced a merger with Freescale Semiconductor . Combining NXP and Freescale into a single company will create the fourth largest producer of microprocessors and other complex microelectronics on the planet, with a total asset value reaching $ 40 billion [2] .
In 2016, Qualcomm tried to acquire NXP for $ 38 billion ($ 110 per share), wishing to receive at least 80% of the shares, but the transaction did not take place. In 2018, Qualcomm updated the offer by offering $ 44 billion ($ 127.50 per share), while requesting a minimum of 70% of NXP shares.
