Samara State Medical University

The university was founded in 1930 as the Middle Volga Regional Medical Institute (1930-1934), then renamed the Samara Medical Institute (1934-1935), the Kuibyshev Medical Institute (1935-1939). It underwent a significant reorganization in 1939, when the 2nd Kuibyshev Military Medical Academy (1939-1942) was created on its basis. After relocation to Samarkand, it was reorganized for the second time in the Kuibyshev Medical Institute named after D.I. Ulyanova (1942-1990), then - Samara Medical Institute (1990-1992). From 1943 to 1965 - a single-faculty institute, from 1965 to 1990 - a multi-faculty. The composition of the KMI-SamSMU lecturers passed through the competition, but the most famous Russian scientists — the surgeon and clinical anatomist V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky, microbiologist N.F. Gamaleya did not work. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology KVMA was headed by the founder of Russian gynecology I.F. Zhordania.

Received class “D” ^[1] , in the ranking of higher educational institutions of the Commonwealth of Independent States , compiled by the Expert RA agency.

The university structure includes 13 faculties and more than 80 departments; own clinics for 1210 patients, 3 educational and 7 research institutes, as well as a research laboratory, SamSMU Scientific Medical Library (fund over 600 thousand volumes), 3 Internet centers with 120 beds and over 20 multimedia and computer classes . The university successfully employs 6 dissertation councils in 15 specialties. Training of scientific personnel in postgraduate and doctoral studies is carried out in 38 specialties. More than 8000 students study at the university annually. The staff of teachers is more than 1,500 people, including 2 academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 8 honored scientists of Russia, 3 honored workers of a higher school of the Russian Federation, 19 honored doctors of Russia. As educational bases, 5 own buildings and more than 35 clinical institutions of the city and region are used.
