The largest robot exhibition Roboticon-3003 is taking place at Madison-Cube Garden. There, professors Farnsworth and Wornstroom present their rogue killers. In the same place, the Mom's Friendly Robot Company demonstrates Robot 1-X , a domestic servant with unlimited possibilities. Farnsworth buys one of them, which makes Bender depressed : he understands that the new 1-X is many times better and more functional than it. In desperation, he decides to upgrade , but at the last second he runs away, afraid of radical changes in himself. Not knowing how to now seem up-to-date in front of friends, Bender builds a boat and floats into the open sea.
A storm takes him to a tropical island. Bender can neither build himself a shelter, nor get food, and very soon his battery runs out . He is saved by the natives - the same robots, but using alternative (non-modern) power sources. Very soon, Bender imbued with their life, accepted their lifestyle and even made a downgrade for themselves - replacing the metal parts of its structure with similar wooden ones. He calls on everyone to fight with modern technology.
In a wooden submarine with a rowing oars, Bender (as the captain of the ship and the leader of the uprising) and the inhabitants of the island arrive in the waters of New York. They commit a series of “anti-tech sabotage and terrorist acts,” and then Bender outlines the final goal - the office of the Interplanetary Express, where his sworn enemy Robot 1-X remained. After several shots into the office from a primitive catapult, the entire Express crew is caught under their spaceship , and they are surrounded by burning fuel . Bender rushes to the rescue of his friends, but his new body brings him - it is undermined by termites . The only way out is to ask for the help of the hated 1st, and Bender does it.
Suddenly, Bender realizes that he loves the Robot 1-X, and finds himself upgraded . It turns out that he did not run out of nowhere, it was just a hallucination caused by a change in his software .
