Fry accidentally catches the eye of a message that an unscathed Panucci pizzeria of the 20th century was excavated under New New York. He goes there on an excursion with Bender . There, Fry recognizes in one of the exhibits the mummified remains of his dog . He recalls how he met him in August 1997 , when he delivered pizza on a false call and, learning about the deception, fed the dog the same pizza. Since then, the dog recognized him as his master. Fry named the dog Seymour Esis ("Seymour Asses", in honor of that false call), abbreviated as Seymour .

Fry wanted to pick up the dog from the museum , but he was refused. Only after staging a protest did he get him to be given a mummy. Professor Farnsworth states that he will be able to clone the dog, and Fry is looking forward to this event. Only Bender, Fry's best friend, is angry and upset, languishing from jealousy.

The professor asks for a little time to reconfigure the Cloning Machine from “human” to “dog”. After that, he promises that Seymour will live with all his memories.

We see flashback on December 31st, 1999 , when the dog tries not to let Fry to deliver the fateful order to the Applied Cryogenics, but he does not obey his friend and orders him to wait for his return near the Panucci Pizzeria. On January 1, 2000, Seymour tried to bring Fry's family to his aid, but nothing came of it.

Meanwhile, Fry begins preparations for meeting an old friend: he buys dog toys and food, collars , more and more confusing Bender. He tries to distract him from this venture, imitating dog habits and even bringing Roboshenko into the house, but in vain.

A crucial moment is coming: the cloning process has started, the source of energy for it is lava , splashing under the office of the Interplanetary Express. At this time, Bender offers Fry to go to the Talent Show , but he asks to "keep up with him." This became the last straw in Bender’s heart, and he throws Seymour’s body into the lava, hoping that now he will definitely remain the only friend of Fry.

The professor claims that the puppy has mineralized right through, so his cages can still be saved, despite the high temperature of the lava, and Fry is going to dive into the lava himself after another. Leela and Amy hardly stop him and he, sobbing, that nothing can be fixed anymore, sobs. Seeing this, Bender realizes the depth of Fry’s love for Seymour and dives into the lava himself, believing that he has a chance not to melt. When Leela is ready to rush to save Bender, he appears with Seymour in his hands.

The cloning process resumes, but here Fry learns that Seymour died at the age of fifteen, that is, he lived another twelve years after the disappearance of the owner. From this, Fry concludes that the dog must have forgotten him at the time of his death, and asks to stop cloning.

In the last flashback we see that this is not so: all these years, no matter what, Seymour devotedly waited for Fry at the pizzeria and died in the same place. In the end, Connie Francis plays “I will wait for you.”

Interesting Facts

Cultural References

  • The title of the episode is a parody of the name of the movie Jurassic Park .
  • In the series finale, a melody from the film “ Cherbourg Umbrellas ” by composer Michel Legrand performed by Connie Francis sounds.
  • The storyline of the dog Fry created based on real events - the history of the famous dogs Greyfraers Bobby , Hachiko , Shep and others .
  • When Fry says goodbye to Seymour after feeding him, he shows the gesture of the inhabitants of the planet Vulcan from Star Trek .
  • The last flashback is a reference to a dog named Hachiko , who, despite the death of his master, came to the station to wait for the master for nine years, until his death.

Trivia

  • Critically watching the dance of Fry, Leela holds in her hands the book “Dancing of the Ancient Bronx ”.
  • The archaeologist who unearthed Seymour was called Dr. Ben Beeler , which may be a parody of the producer and scriptwriter of the animated series Ken Keeler.
  • An inscription appears on the lava: “ATTENTION! The contents of the Earth can be hot! ”, Which is a parody of the inscription on the cups with hot drinks in fast-food restaurants:“ ATTENTION! The contents of the glass may be hot! ”
  • Fry finds out that Seymour lived another twelve years after his disappearance. The change of seasons in the last flashback is exactly twelve.
  • Leela and Amy fight on the carpet, explaining their actions by the fact that they are training. Explicit reference to the "staged wrestling" popular in the USA. The girls are dressed in sexy tight-fitting suits, but Fry so wants to put a rug for the dog that he does not even notice it and asks them to leave.
  • In the flashback, where Fry comes to the cryogenic laboratory and throws pizza on the table, you can see the Critters eye sticking out of the bin. This is a hint that Fry was in the future for a reason. Also, at the moment when Fry falls from his chair and finds himself directly in the freezer, in addition to the shadow of Zubastik, unlike the pilot episode, you can notice the shadow of Fry himself. This is later explained in the episode " The Why Of Fry ."
