British Steel Corporation is a British steel monopolist . It was formed in 1967 by the merger of 14 companies. The company was formed from the assets of former private steel companies, which were nationalized by the Labor government of Harold Wilson (1964-1970).

In 1988, the company was privatized by a conservative government led by Margaret Thatcher . The company later merged with the Dutch Koninklijke Hoogovens , forming the Corus Group , which began operations on October 6, 1999 [1] . Corus, in turn, was acquired by the Indian company Tata Steel .

In May 2019, British Steel failed in negotiations to attract a government loan - a London court decided to forcibly liquidate it . [2]
