The novel is written by writer Catherine Drennan , who is also the author of the script for the episode " Extreme Measures ", which entered the third season of the series. Catherine Drennan is the wife of Joseph Michael Strazinsky, the creator of the series.

The novel stands out sufficiently among similar works, as it is recognized as canonical (that is, fully consistent with the plot arch of the main work), despite the fact that most of the nine books in the series were not recognized as such.
