Verkhovskys (noble family)

Verkhovskys ( Polish: Wierchowski ) is a Russian noble family who, since the end of the 17th century, owned estates in the Galich district and recorded in the VI part of the genealogy book of the Kostroma province . Another spelling of the name is Verakhovsky . In the Galich district, servants vowed forever from generation to generation to serve the Verkhovskys. Branches of the genus

In “ Herbovnik ” there are two surnames of the Verkhovsky family. The ancestor of the first was Andrei Matveevich Verkhovsky , who owned the village of Bogoslovsky, on the Shag River, in the Galitsky district of the Paritsky volost. “... were granted from the Sovereigns in 1578 and other years by estates” (“Herbovnik”, VII, 30) [1] .

Another branch comes from Mikhail Savelyevich Verkhovsky [2] , who died in 1620 . Mikhail Savelyevich and his sons, Gregory , Ivan , Vasily , Cyril and Stepan , “in 1609 and other years, according to the Bit Archive, they were written among the noblemen and children of the boyars in the city with a local salary” (“Herbovnik”, IX, 27) [3] . Owned estates in the Galician district.

There is also an old noble family, leading back to Adam Verkhovsky , granted by estates in the Smolensk county by King of Poland Władysław IV in 1641 . This genus is recorded in the VI part of the genealogy of the Smolensk province [4] . Zakhary Vasilievich (Bogdanovich) Verkhovsky, known as the Monk Elder Zosima , came from this genus; as well as Alexander Ivanovich Verkhovsky and Yuri and Lydia Nikandrovich Verkhovsky.

Emblem Description

The shield is divided into four parts, of which the first in the green field shows a golden cross and below it a horseshoe with spikes down and two golden arrows crosswise through it (amend. Polish coat of arms Sushinsky ). In the second in the red field, gold is indicated by scales and under them a compass; In the third in the red field, a silver saber and a gun. In the fourth part, in a green field, two silver pistols are placed crosswise.

The shield is crowned with a noble helmet and crown. Crest : three ostrich feathers. The mark on the shield is green and red, lined with gold and silver. Shield holders: two lions. The coat of arms of the Verekhovskys (Verkhovskys) clan is included in Part 9 of the General Tombstone of the noble clans of the All-Russian Empire, p. 27.
