Chinque Terre , Chinke Terre ( Italian. Cinque Terre , league. Sinque Tere - “Five Lands”) - the national park of Italy , includes man-made terraces and five small settlements on the coast of the Genoa Bay in the province of La Spezia of the Liguria administrative region. The region is located in the eastern part of the so-called Riviera - Riviera di Levant . Local monuments date from the Middle Ages, but the emergence of some settlements dates back to Roman time. In 1997, UNESCO included the cultural landscape of the Cinque Terre Park on the World Heritage List of Humanity .

Geographical position
The Cinque Terre region is located 5 km west of the city of La Spezia.
The Cinque Terre includes Monterosso al Mare (or simply Monterosso), Vernazza , Corniglia , Manarola and Riomaggiore . In addition to Monterosso, traffic is prohibited inside the settlements, and in Monterosso it is extremely limited.
History
The settlements that are now part of the region, emerged in the XI century.
In 1997, the Cinque Terre, together with the city of Portovenere and the nearest islands ( Palmaria , Tino and Tinetto ) became a UNESCO World Heritage Site [1] . The life of the inhabitants, despite the presence of all the benefits of civilization, has changed little. Cinque Terre is very popular among tourists .
