Biography

Adolf Ladürner was born into the family of the composer and pianist , a native of Tyrol [4] . He studied painting with Horace Vernet [4] , and then lived and worked in Paris , creating works in the field of battle painting (parades, scenes of hostilities). He exhibited twice his works in the Salon (in 1824 the painting “The Battle of Mataro” and in 1827 - “The Headquarters of the Royal Lancers” [5] ).

In 1830 he moved to St. Petersburg , where he soon gained the favor of Emperor Nicholas I and painted for him images of military parades, divorces, camp scenes, uniforms of various units of the Russian army, etc. [5]

In 1836, the Imperial Academy of Arts , for several of the works of this artist presented to her, recognized him as an academician, and in 1840 elevated him to the rank of professor. He died in St. Petersburg in 1855 . Numerous works of Ladurner were scattered mainly in the imperial palaces; of these, the most complex and curious is “The Triumph of Opening the Alexander Column” (located in the Hermitage ) [5] .

He died in St. Petersburg on June 2 (14), 1855 “from paralysis of the spinal cord” [6] . He was buried at the Smolensk Lutheran cemetery [7] (site 4, a granite stele on a pedestal, the tombstone was destroyed) [8] .

  2. ↑ In the directory “List of Russian Artists”, the date of birth of A. Ladurner is 1789, and the exact date of death is June 2, 1855. “The alphabetical index of Russian figures for the Russian Biographical Dictionary” (1887) provides such information: “Ladurner, Adolf Ignatievich 66 l. died June 2, 1855 ... ". However, the Petersburg Necropolis reference book indicates the same date of death on June 2, 1855 (birth date is not indicated) and says that Ladurne (!) Wilhelm-Adolf died at the age of 55. In contemporary art criticism, the date of birth 1798/99 is indicated everywhere, sometimes in doubt.
