Sofieru

Palace Sofieru

Sofiero ( Swede. Sofiero ) - the former palace of the Swedish royal family, located 5 km north of Helsingborg . Initially, it was a hemman called Skabelycke, which in 1864 was acquired by the Swedish prince Oscar and his wife Sofia Nassau. [1] The construction of the palace was completed in 1865 . It acquired its modern look in 1876 after the accession of the Oscars to the throne.

History

In 1905 , the grandson of Oscar II , Prince Gustav Adolf , and his wife, Crown Princess Margarita Connautskaya , received this palace as a wedding gift. They updated it and set up a large garden of rhododendrons , thanks to which the palace is so famous today. Gustavus Adolphus became king in 1950 under the name of Gustavus VI Adolphus , and until 1973 Sofier was his official summer residence. It was believed that he was the king’s favorite palace. He who died in 1973 as a monarch bequeathed a palace to Helsingborg .

Our days

A bus from Helsingborg runs to Sofieru several times per hour. Today its main attraction is the huge gardens with a lot of local and imported from other places flora collected on both sides of the Öresund Strait. It is worth mentioning the flower beds of rhododendrons , of which there are more than 500 species in the garden. [2] The park has a small exhibition of contemporary art.

In summer , live concerts are held on large grassy meadows in the open air , where both local ( Per Gessle , Gyllene Tider ) and foreign performers and bands ( Bob Dylan , Brian Adams ) perform.

The palace has a restaurant and cafe , sometimes it is also used as an exhibition gallery . The beer brand produced by Kopparbergs Brewery is called Sofieru.
