His first works ("Gesammelte Abhandlungen", Leipzig, 1866 ) concerned mainly the Iranian world; then he published a number of ancient works in Syriac and related Greek texts. He returned to Iranian languages in his Beiträge zur baktrischen Lexikographie ( 1868 ), Armenische Studien ( 1877 ) and Persische Studien ( 1884 ); then came Semitica (Gett., 1878 - 1879 ), Orientalia ( 1879 - 1880 ), Aegyptiaca ( 1883 ) and Uebersicht über die im Aramäischen, Arabischen und Hebräischen übliche Bildung der Nomina ( 1889 ) - labor extremely important for the comparative study of Semitic languages.
A number of Lagarde's publications were devoted to criticizing the text of the Bible . In Kanonische Bücher des Alten Testaments und griech. Sprache ”( 1883 ) Lagarde tried to recreate 3 translation versions of seventy interpreters who were recognized, according to the testimony of blessed Jerome , in three church regions of the East. "Symmicta" ( 1877 - 1880 ) and "Mitteilungen" ( 1884 - 1891 ), theological and philological content, contain small works of Lagarde in the last time of his life.
Lagarde also wrote: "Ueber das Verhältniss des deutschen Staates zu Theologie, Kirche und Religion" (Gett., 1873 ); “Polit. Aufsätze "( 1874 ); “Ueber die gegenwärtige Lage des Deutschen Reichs” ( 1876 ) and others. A collection of his journalistic works “Deutsche Schriften” was published in 1891 - R. Gottheil published “Bibliography of the works of P. A de L.”, in “Proceedings of the American Oriental Society ”( 1892 et al.).

Lagarde became the ideologist of the synthesis of anti-Semitic views in Germany along with Houston Stuart Chamberlain - theorist of racial anti-Semitism [5] .
