Biography
Born into a family of 19 children, of whom Nikolai and Alexey are also known.
He was educated in the Tver Theological Seminary and the Main Pedagogical Institute ; received a gold medal for the study "On the Reims Gospel " [1] , published in "Experiences of historical and philological works of students of the Main Pedagogical Institute" (St. Petersburg, 1852 , Vol. I). In 1851–1869, he occupied the department of Slavic adverbs at Kharkov University . At this time he received: a master's degree in 1852 - for his thesis "On the language of northern Russian chronicles" and the degree of doctor - for "Research on the chronicle of Ioakimovskaya ."
This was followed by a number of linguistic articles: "Description of the seven manuscripts of the Imperial St. Petersburg Public Library" ( Moscow, 1858 ), "Overview of the remarkable features of the Little Russian adverb compared with Great Russian and other Slavic dialects" (St. Petersburg, 1859), etc. After traveling around the Slavic lands in 1859–1861, Lavrovsky published “The Life of Tsar Lazarus in the 17th Century List” (Moscow, 1860); “In remembrance of Ganke and Safarik” (Kharkov, 1861); "The news about the state of the Uniate Church among the Russians in Galicia" (Kharkov, 1862); " Cyril and Methodius, as Orthodox preachers of the Western Slavs ... " (Kharkov, 1863); "The fall of the Czech Republic in the XVII century" (" Journal of the Ministry of National Education " Part CXVIII, Vol. 5); "On the works of Lomonosov on the Russian language and Russian history" (Kharkiv, 1865); Ethnographic essay on the Koshosh ( Philological Notes , Voronezh, 1866); "The root value in the names of kinship among the Slavs" ( St. Petersburg, 1867 ).
From 1862 he was a full member of the Society of lovers of Russian literature .
Then P.A. Lavrovsky was the first rector of the Imperial University of Warsaw , after its renewal (1869–1872); then a trustee of the Orenburg (1875–1880) and Odessa (1880–1885) school districts, a member of the council of the Minister of Public Education .
Lavrovsky's recent works: "Serbian-Russian Dictionary" (St. Petersburg, 1870); "Montenegro and Montenegrins" ("Conversation", 1871, Vol. I); "Russian-Serbian Dictionary" (St. Petersburg, 1880). After his death, the Italian legend about the life of St. Cyril and the discovery of the relics of St. Clement by him was published ( Journal of the Ministry of Public Education , 1886, books 7 and 8).
He was buried near the walls of the local church in the cemetery of the village of Vydropuzhsk (now in the Spirovsky District of the Tver Region ).
