Events
- June - in Ireland , on the County Donegal Railways Joint Committee ( en ) railroad with a gauge of 914 mm, a diesel-powered motorway starts regular passenger transport.
- June 9 - at 01.30 at night from Leningrad to Moscow the first fast company train Red Arrow departed. Travel time 9 hours 45 minutes [1] .
- June 15 - a decision was made to build the Moscow Metro [2] .
- September 12 - near Bucharest , a viaduct during the passage of the Orient Express was destroyed by an explosive device installed by Hungarian fascists . As a result, train cars fell into a ravine, twenty people died. The famous French singer and dancer Josephine Baker, who was on the train, was in English. Josephine Baker survived and gave an impromptu concert to reassure the other passengers.
- Tashkent Institute of Railway Engineers organized.
- In the USSR, on a new rolling stock, the installation of automatic brakes with an air distributor of a design by I.K. Matrosov began . [3]
New rolling stock
- In the USSR, the Lugansk Locomotive Plant produced the first steam locomotive of the FD series.
- In Germany, the Krupp factories mastered the production of tank locomotives of the Tk series .
- In the USA, at the Baldwin plants, by order of the NKPS , experimental T-series steam locomotives were produced.
- In the United States , the ALCO factories commissioned the NKPS to produce experimental T a series steam locomotives.
