Pyotr Alekseevich Lavrov (September 6 (18), 1856 , Yaroslavl - November 24, 1929 , Leningrad ) - Russian and Soviet philologist - Slavic , linguist , professor of the Novorossiysk (since 1898 ), Petersburg (since 1900 ) and Perm (since 1916 ) universities , Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR ( 1923 , until 1925 - RAS ; Corresponding Member of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences since 1902 ).

Biography

Born in the family of a priest. He graduated with a silver medal from the Yaroslavl Gymnasium (1875). Then he studied at the historical and philological faculty of Moscow University , where he later taught Slavic studies .

Repeatedly visited the Balkan countries, working in archives and libraries. In 1900 he participated in the expedition of Academician N.P. Kondakov to Macedonia. Together with other authors, he completed the creation of the Bulgarian-Russian dictionary, the work on which was begun by A. L. Duvernois. The author of several grammars of the Serbian and Bulgarian languages. For some time he was secretary of the Slavic Committee of the Moscow Archaeological Society .

Master's thesis - “ Peter II Petrovich Negosh, Vladyka Chernogorsky and his literary activity” (M., 1887), doctoral thesis “Review of sound and formal features of the Bulgarian language ” (M., 1893). In the last work, Lavrov enriched the history of the Bulgarian language with abundant material extracted from manuscripts, and established new points of contact between Bulgarian dialects (modern and old) and the language of ancient Old Slavonic monuments.

Professor of Novorossiysk (since 1898 ), Petersburg (since 1900 ) and Perm (since 1916 , historical and philological faculty ) universities.

He was buried in Leningrad [1] .
