Norman Abel (also Norman Abeles, English Norman Abeles ) is an American psychologist of Austrian origin.

Norman Abel was born in Vienna in 1928 . Educated first at New York University (in 1949 received a bachelor 's degree ), and then at the University of Texas (Austin) ( master 's degree in 1952 ). In 1958, at the same university received a Ph.D. Since 1968 he is a professor of psychology at the University of Michigan. From 1997 to 1998 he was President of the American Psychological Association .
Norman Abel, together with his colleagues, created the largest US archive of psychotherapeutic audio recordings. His research included aspects of the interaction of mood and memory. His work has influenced the development of vocational psychology in the United States . He was the editor of several leading publications on professional psychology . Known for his work in the field of clinical neuropsychology , psychotherapy , counseling and legal psychology .
