Title
The foggy structure of the word Kaspl is associated with the antiquity of borrowing the root that formed the basis of the toponym. The name has a Western Baltic origin from the root Ape - "water", and is probably connected with the Baltic tribes who settled in this area 4-6 thousand years ago, whose main activity was aquatic fishing, which is reflected in the name of the hydronym. Later, Slavicization of the root ape occurred, which eventually led to the current form of the toponym [2] .
There are various versions regarding the origin of the name. One of them, recorded by local historians in the 20th century, says that the Varangian word "caspla" means "beautiful place", "a place where you can have a good rest."
