Story

The interplanetary express ship suddenly breaks down: the reason is a strangely bent part. The crew finds out that Bender, even though he denies this, is the “bending machine” of her, and of other objects in the area. Hermes discovers a video, after which it becomes clear that the robot does this in a dream. Bender is discouraged, but not surprised: in the end, he was born to bend. Leela and Professor Farnsworth come to the conclusion that the robot needs to somehow satisfy its passion for bending. By the way, the professor himself is also bent by Bender at an inconceivable angle, but Farnsworth likes it, his nature becomes more romantic.

Curvetti Bros. Bending Plant is going on strike at the Curvetti Bros. Plant . Bender gets inside, ready to work, and there he meets working Flexo (his evil double) and beautiful robo-girl Angelina, bending the hangers, in which Bender immediately falls in love. After work, Bender and Angelin spend a “day in love”: ride the rides, shoot at the shooting range ...

Bender comes to the general meeting of the crew with news: he is in love with Angelin and invites everyone to the Elzar restaurant to celebrate this event. In the restaurant, Bender makes a toast to Angelin, but Fry immediately notices her, having dinner with Flexo. Enraged, Bender begins to bend a piece of bread a week ago and loses his hands, and then requires a couple of explanations. It turns out that Flexo and Angelin were married, and now divorced and just have a friendly dinner together.

Bender is at a loss, Leela offers him to tell Angelina about her feelings, and Fry hints that this is not a good idea. Then Bender comes up with a plan for him to take Angelina to clean water: he attaches himself a beard, like Flexo, and impersonates him on a date. In the restaurant “ The Hip Joint ”, he freaks out a mafia robot and almost gives himself away, losing a fake beard. After leaving the restaurant, Bender continues his harassment and eventually ensures that she kisses Flexo. During the kiss, he again loses his beard, and this time Angelin reveals a hoax. She tries to explain everything, but Bender does not want to listen to anything and swears to kill Flexo.

At the Flexion Factory, Bender attacks Flexo, their fight turns into a bending of the beams, and the robomafia that appeared there plans to kill Flexo. Angelin begs the robots to stop, but Bender continues to persist. Robomafia throws a “hard” beam onto Flexo, and it breaks. Angelin shows feelings for Flexo and, to make her comfortable, Bender rushes to save Flexo. With great difficulty, he bends the "unbending beam", freeing Flexo, and then Angelin and Flexo "make love right on the floor."

Bender returns to the Interplanetary Express office and promises to never bend anything again, but the crew asks him to straighten the professor back. Bender fulfills the request, bending Farnsworth into an even more inappropriate position.

Interesting Facts

Cultural References

  • The scene in which Bender stands behind Angelin, helping her to bend the beam, is a parody of the movie " Ghost ".
  • At the beginning of the series, Dr. Zoidberg pronounces the phrase "It looks like we have another mystery." This is a reference to the animated series " Scooby-Doo ."
  • Bender’s and Flexo’s clash resembles the clash of Neo and Agent Smith at the metro station in the movie The Matrix .

Trivia

  • In this series, we learn that Bender is 4 years old, and he was “born” in a poor quarter of Tijuana .
  • In the bending plant, parallel lines are drawn on the floor. Jobs on this floor are a reference to the illusion of perspective.
  • This series shows that Bender was “born” as an adult, but in the Lethal Inspection series we see that he was assembled as a child. However, most likely, over time, robots are reassembled and upgraded from a child model to an adult. Perhaps they partially erase the memory of the previous “incarnation”.
  • When the just assembled Bender downloads the bending program, the sound of the DSL modem is heard.

Links to other episodes

  • The previous time we saw Flexo in The Lesser of Two Evils , where he also got into an unpleasant story associated with confusion: he was confused with Bender. Bendless Love also mentions that Flexo served Bender instead of Bender for stealing a precious diadem.
