Uzkoroty

The total length of the representatives of this family ranges from 1.5 to 10.5 cm. They have a disproportionately small size of the head and mouth. The limbs are quite short, most species lack a swimming membrane and suction cups .

They are very diverse, some species are rather inconspicuous, others have bright red and orange colors, which are interspersed with darker ones, which gives the color contrast and expressiveness.

Among narrow-breeds there are terrestrial and woody forms. Some species have adapted to very dry conditions, are able to bury themselves in the ground with the help of hind limbs. They feed mainly on small insects .

In the mating season, males emit loud screams. During the breeding season, most species are attached to water, but some are so adapted to dry conditions that they lay eggs in the burrows of rodents and voids between plant leaves. The larval stage in these species takes place in the egg.

Distributed quite widely: in North and South America , western, eastern and southern Africa , from India to northern Australia ^[2] .
