Mikayil Huseyn oglu Abdullayev ( December 19, 1921 , Baku - August 21, 2002 , Baku) is an Azerbaijani painter and graphic artist . Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR ( 1955 ). People's Artist of the USSR ( 1963 ). Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts (since 1988 ).

Life and creativity
He studied at the Azerbaijan Art Technical School (1935-39) and the Moscow Art Institute. V.I. Surikov (1939-49) in S.V. Gerasimov . During the war, he was not drafted into the army thanks to the intercession of the largest Azerbaijani artist Azim Azimzade before the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan, Mirjafar Bagirov [1] .
In the artist's work dominated by lyrical themes. The author of the paintings “Evening” ( 1947 ), “The Fires of Mingechaur ” ( 1948 ), “The Builders of Happiness” ( 1951 ), “The Indian Series” ( 1957 - 1960 ), “The Centenary Carver A. Babayev” ( 1961 ), “The Hachmas Girls” ( 1982 ), series of drawings “Beyond the River Araks” ( 1950 ), illustrations for the epic “Kitabi Dede-Korkut” ( 1956 ) and the poem “Leyli and Mejnun” ( 1958 ).
The artist's work was closely associated with literature. He created portraits of many writers, artists. Among them are such works as “ M. Gorky in 1928 in Baku ” (1950), “ Uzeir Gadzhibekov ” (1944), “ Samad Vurgun ” (1944, 1959, 1975), “ MF Akhundov ” (1962) , “ Imadeddin Nasimi ” (1973), “ Pianist F. Badalbeyli ” (1975).

The artist made a great contribution to book graphics, in particular, he created illustrations for works by Nizami , Fizuli , Vagif , MF Akhundov , Ashug Alesker , M.E. Sabir , J. Dzhabbarly , Samad Vurgun , Rasoul Rza .
In 1956 - 1971, the artist travels around India, Afghanistan, Poland, Italy and other countries. He creates portraits of I.Gandi , Guttuso , Moravia , Manzu . As a result of travels in India, such works as “Women of Rajasthan”, “Bengal girls” are created. For his painting cycle “In India” in 1970, the Indian government awarded him a gold medal and a diploma from the winner of the Jawaharlal Nehru International Prize. [2] .
M. Abdullaev designed the hall of the Nizami Ganjavi metro station, where he created mosaic panels based on the subjects of the works of Nizami and the portrait of Nizami himself [3] . They also decorated the Absheron Hotel and the Gulistan Palace .
Works were exhibited at international exhibitions ( Prague ( 1957 ), Beijing ( 1958 ), Brussels ( 1958 ), Belgrade ( 1959 ), Paris ( 1960 ), Berlin ( 1963 )).
The author of the book "The eyes of Baku" ( 1962 ).

Memory
- On the facade of a house in Baku, in which Mikail Abdullayev lived, a memorial plaque with a bas-relief of the artist was installed. The author of the bas-relief is the Azerbaijani artist Zeynalabdin Iskenderov [4] .
