Distribution and Ecology
The species is common in the temperate zone of the Far East .
It grows in stony-birch forests, on the edges, glades of spruce-fir forests, less often - in larch forests and thickets of cedar dwarf trees [2] .
Botanical Description
Shrub up to 1 m tall, with a light gray bark .
The leaves are simple, whole. Leaf blades are elliptical, less often ovate, or obovate, almost sessile, blunt at the apex, opposite, bare on both sides.
Inflorescences are located in the sinuses 1-2, rarely 3 upper paired leaves. Peduncles 10-15 mm long.
Flowers with a dark purple two - lipped nimbus 9-12 mm long.
The fruit is a red, elliptical or almost spherical berry of two fully grown ovaries with a gray waxy coating.
