He studied music in Prague from Vaclav Tomaszek , at the same time he studied law. For some time he was in the public service, in 1840 he retired to devote himself entirely to music.
He wrote several operas, including “Bianca and Giuseppe, or the French before Nice” ( German: Bianca and Giuseppe oder Die Franzosen v Nizza ; 1848 ) based on the libretto of Richard Wagner to his own unfinished opera; besides, the author of Requiem ( 1829 ), songs, chamber and symphonic music (of which the Hunting Symphony was the most famous), a textbook for beginning organists ( 1861 ).
In 1843 - 1864 He headed the Prague Conservatory . Among the many students of Kitl are Vilém Blodek , Vatroslav Lisinsky , who worked in Russia by Eduard Napravnik and Wilhelm Schubert .
Concerto for cello and orchestra by Anton Treg is devoted to Kitlu.
