Saling ( niderl. Zaling ) - part of the mast , wooden or metal frame construction, consisting of longitudinal ( long-saling ) and transverse ( paint ) bars [1] , used to connect parts of the vertical mast ( mast and its extension in height - rods or shafts and bram-shafts , and so on) [2] [3] , is also intended for the removal of buckstags ( bram-bakstag, bom-bram-bakstag ) and for spreading guy cables ( wall-guy, bram-guy and bom- bram-guy ). Sometimes salings serve as a support for observation [2] and technological sites ( Mars , etc. - see photo on the right).

Design
In the upper part of the mast (under the top ) there is a tetrahedral belt - achtants . On both sides of the mast, the console-shaped overlays [Comm 1] of the chicks are fastened with bolts to the achtants, in which bale grooves are sometimes made at the edges. The longitudinal bars of the long-salings , on which the transverse bars of the paintwork are placed, are laid on the chicks. [four]
The purpose of long-saling and kraspits is to support the banner and Mars . [four]
The lower end of the rod passes between the long-salings from the front of the mast and is strengthened from falling down by a short transverse beam (check), called the bar , which is pushed over the long-salings. [five]
The lower part of the wall between the long-saling and the ezelgoft is called a spur . At the lower end of the spur there is a trunnion of square cross section, which is located between the long-salings. A square hole is cut in the spur for a special pin of the barrier , the protruding parts of which lie on the long salsa and support the wall. In addition, in the spur of the rod, an inclined rectangular hole is usually cut out - a pulley-gat , where a pulley is placed through which a pull-out wall is used to raise and lower the rod. [four]
In the upper part of the rod there are also achtants, on the upper part of which the rod saling rests, which also consists of long-salsings and paints. There are a pulley-gat with a pulley for the passage of the upper Marsa-ray hitch in the stanchors of the stenga. [four]
In order to protect the cable-shields from rubbing with the sharp edges of the long-saling , they were fastened with wood blocks having the shape of a quarter circle, called mast pillows , or calvahs . [four]
Depending on the belonging to a particular mast, saling is called for-saling, mainsailing, cruise-saling .
On modern sailing yachts, a knot is sometimes called a saling , consisting of spreaders and their mounts to the mast.
