Events
- During the Soviet-Finnish war, for 47 days, in extremely difficult winter weather conditions, the 132-km railway Petrozavodsk - Suojärvi was built .
- June 14 - The People’s Commissariat of Railways signed an order to organize the Brest-Litovsk Railway College.
- On August 4, in the city of Svobodny ( Amur Region , RSFSR ), the Small Amur Children's Railway was opened.
- On November 8, the Small Southern Railway was opened in Kharkov .
- On November 9, the Small North Caucasian Railway named after Yu. A. Gagarin was opened in Rostov-on-Don .

- The first Soviet fuel-free steam locomotive launched on the basis of the tank engine 9P
- In Finland, Tampella and Lokomo plants began production of Tr1 series freight steam locomotives .
- In the United States , Electro-Motive Diesel plants have mastered the production of EMD 40 series motor vehicles .
- The Ganz plant (Budapest) has launched the production of Rosario three-car diesel trains for the Argentine railways.
