Biography
Istvan Oros received his professional education at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in Budapest . It should be noted that one of his teachers was Erno Rubik , the inventor who created the famous mechanical puzzle in 1974, which is still popular today, the Rubik's Cube . After graduating in 1975 , Oros began working in the theater as a stage designer , decorator and actor , and also became interested in the art of animation. Later, when his interests moved to the field of applied graphics , he began to make theater, exhibition and film posters .
A man of encyclopedic knowledge, having passed the classical school of a European draftsman and engraver, who is fluent in “material”, Istvan Oros has developed his own unique style and special incomparable handwriting. At the same time, colossal performance and amazing creative flight of the highest standard make his posters outstanding works of modern art. A bold innovator , he has been experimenting all his life with a plastic form, a mixture of styles and directions, while remaining, oddly enough, a man of tradition in the noblest sense of the word.
Istvan Oros develops in his schedule the most interesting ideas of the school of European impossibilism (“art of the impossible”). And he does it artistically and easily, as if playing theatrical sketches. He juggles mysterious images from the classical “aesthetics of the absurd” and European mysticism, exits into the Escher “fourth dimension” and mesmerizing examples of “ op-art ” without any exertion. It is not surprising that in the poster the maestro remains true to himself, boldly “mixing” themes from literature, applied psychology and contemporary art. His posters are illustrations in the big Book of Life (which, in fact, is the reality surrounding these posters).
Istvan Oros laureate of the fifth Golden Bee . He is a regular participant in all the major international biennials ( Brno , Warsaw , Toyama , Fort Collins, Lahti ). He does not forget about his passion for animation, collaborating as a director with the Pannonia film studio (studio) . Sometimes Istvan Opoc lectures as a visiting teacher at his alma mater, Hungarian University of Fine Arts in Budapest.
Anamorphosis
The anamorphoses of Istvan Oros can be seen only with the help of special devices - conical or cylindrical mirrors, which are installed directly in the picture area with a double meaning. In the reflection of these mirrors, our eyes see the true - semantic image, completely unlike what we see in the original picture.
The artist’s most famous anamorphosis is called Mysterious Island. It depicts the seashore and waves diverging to the sides, revealing two wanderers standing on the shore, the seabed and the wreckage of a sunken ship. Looking at the reflection of this picture in a cylindrical mirror, we will see a portrait of the artist’s favorite writer - Jules Verne .
