He graduated from the Bucharest Conservatory ( 1947 ). In 1953 he received the first prize of the Bucharest International Competition. In 1957 - 1964 He performed extensively in Romania and other countries. In 1964 - 1966 played in the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra , in 1967 - 1970 taught at the Vienna Academy of Music . Since 1971 , in Canada, in 1977 , adopted Canadian citizenship. In 1971 - 1991 taught at the University of Toronto .

Orloff's recordings of the 1950s and 60s, including concerts by Haydn , Schumann , Saint-Saens , Elgar , Shostakovich , Khachaturian , were reissued on three CDs in 2006 .
