Athens State Orchestra

Athens State Orchestra ( Greek Κρατική Ορχήστρα Αθηνών ) is a Greek symphony orchestra based in Athens .

Founded in 1893 as the Athens Conservatory Orchestra, the head of the Conservatory Georgios Nadzos used the orchestra as a means of propaganda of German and French music in Greece, he was assisted by the Belgian-Swiss conductor Frank Choisy . In 1911 it was renamed the Athenian Symphony Orchestra, in 1925 it was reorganized into an independent Concert Society ( Greek Σύλλογος Συναυλιών ), but two years later, by the efforts of Nadzos, he was returned under the patronage of the conservatory. Since 1943, it has been operating under its current name as a subordinate structure of the national Ministry of Education .
