Biography

Serafima Ionsonovna Blonskaya was born on October 3, 1870 in the town of Verkhnodniprovsk, Yekaterinoslav Province [1] . In 1875, the family moved to Taganrog [1] . His father, Iason Ivanovich Blonsky, was a lawyer, his mother was from the Strelna family, a professor of medicine at Kharkov University .

In 1887 he graduated from the Taganrog Mariinsky gymnasium with a gold medal [1] . In 1891 he graduated from the Kiev drawing school N. I. Murashko [1] . From 1892 to 1900 he studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts . In 1900 she received the title of the artist for the thesis work "Girls" (" Palm Sunday ") - the only multi-figure composition created by Blonskaya. After graduating from the Academy of Arts, Seraphim Blonskaya is sent to Italy to be improved at a public expense. In Italy, she began to learn Italian and until the end of her days she loved him and read Italian fluently.

In 1909, Blonskaya returned to Taganrog. In 1910 [2] she and her husband A. M. Leontovsky opened a school of drawing and painting with a course of lectures on anatomy , perspective, and the history of art . School classes were conducted in two shifts. The fee was charged negligible, about 25 kopecks per month. Orphanage children studied for free. Also, students who have shown special abilities were exempted from tuition fees. After the death of A. M. Leontovsky ( 1928 ), the school ceased to exist. After the school was closed, Blonskaya gave lessons at home [3] . She lived with the family of her sister, Valentina I. Rukhlina, a teacher of one of the city schools [4] .

In the 1930s , Blonskaya is a member of the All- Artist "Taganrog." In 1942, Blonskaya donated her best work to the city - the painting “Girls” (“Palm Sunday”). Since 1944 he has been working in the Taganrog branch of the Art Fund of the RSFSR . In 1946, participates in the regional exhibition with the work "Charming female portrait."

S. Blonskaya died on August 9, 1947 in Taganrog . Buried in the old city cemetery . The monument on the artist's grave was restored only in 2010 , at the expense of the city budget [5] .

  • In 1999, the Taganrog Children's Art School was named after Seraphim Blonskaya.
  • In 2010, Taganrog , in the house at ul. Rosa Luxemburg 91, where Seraphim Blonskaya and Alexander Leontovsky lived, decided to create a memorial room [9] .
  • In October 2010 , to the 140th anniversary of the artist’s birth, a personal exhibition of Seraphim Blonskaya was held at the Taganrog Art Museum [9] .
