Cessna 172

"Cessna-172 Skyhawk" ( English Cessna 172 Skyhawk ) - an American light aircraft . It is produced by the company Cessna . The most massive aircraft in the history of aviation. Cessna 172 Aircraft Models

The aircraft was produced in many versions (over 25). Below are descriptions of some of them:

172

The basic version 172 appeared in November 1955 as the 1956 model and remained in production until the 172A model was replaced in early 1960. A six-cylinder Continental O-300 air-cooled engine with a capacity of 145 liters was installed on the aircraft. with. (110 kW). The base price of the aircraft was $ 8,995. 172A

Historical Flights

In 1958, the Cessna 172 was set an absolute record for the duration of the flight with refueling in the air. The aircraft with flight number N9172B, piloted by Robert Timm and John Cook, took off on December 4, 1958 from the McCarran airfield near Las Vegas and landed at the same airfield on February 5, 1959, after staying in the air for 64 days 22 hours 19 minutes 5 seconds. The action was organized to raise funds for the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Fund . Remembering this flight, Cook said [3] :“Next time, when I will be pulled into flight for a duration, I will lock myself in our garbage container with the vacuum cleaner turned on. Of course, until my psychiatrist arrives at work in the morning. ”

On May 28, 1987, the Cessna-172 Skyhawk aircraft (D-ECJB number), piloted by German citizen Mathias Rust , flew out of the Finnish capital Helsinki and landed on Red Square in Moscow . As a result of the incident, a number of senior officers of the USSR Armed Forces were removed from their posts, including Minister of Defense Sokolov and Air Defense Commander Koldunov .
