Biography
Elizaveta Nikolaevna Zvantseva is the great-granddaughter of Pyotr Pavlovich Zvantsev, the son of a Turkish pasha , who died during the capture of the Zhvanets fortress in 1769 . Paul I took care of the Turkish boy, baptized him with the name Peter, and gave his patronymic as usual. The surname was formed from the name of the fortress - Zhvantov, which subsequently transformed into Zvantov and, finally, Zvantsev.
The grandchildren of Peter Pavlovich - Konstantin, Peter and Nikolai (Lisa's father) - were brilliantly educated people, they occupied a high position in both Moscow and St. Petersburg society. Passionate theater-goers deeply understood and loved music, literature, and painting. Maternal grandfather E. N. Zvantseva is Nikolai Alekseevich Polevoy , a famous Russian writer and historian.
In the late 1880s, in St. Petersburg, in the house of E. N. Gaevskaya, Lisa Zvantseva and I. E. Repin meet.
During 1889, Repin painted five portraits of Zvantseva. The only surviving large portrait by the will of the artist was donated to the Ateneum Museum in Helsinki .
Not having graduated from the Academy of Arts, Elizaveta Nikolaevna in 1897, together with her childhood friend K. A. Somov, went to Paris , where he works in famous schools of French artists. Returning to Moscow in 1899, he opens an art school, which was taught by famous artists K. Korovin , V. Serov and others. In 1906, Elizaveta Nikolaevna opened a private art workshop in St. Petersburg ("School of Bakst and Dobuzhinsky"), which lasted until 1916 . The school was located in the famous “House with a tower” on the corner of Tavricheskaya (house 35) and Tverskaya (house 1), known by Ivanov’s environments from Vyacheslav Ivanov .) In the school (studio), E. N. Zvantseva was taught by such famous artists as Leon Bakst , Mstislav Dobuzhinsky , Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin .
After the revolution, Elizaveta Nikolaevna lived in Nizhny Novgorod for a while, then moved to Moscow. She did not have a family and, she transferred all unspent sense of motherhood to street children, working in the Moscow orphanage.
Died in August 1921 .
