Whirlwind

Vikhra ( Belorussian Vihra ) - a river in the Smolensk region of Russia and the Mogilev region of Belarus, the right tributary of the Sozh River , flows through the territory of the Smolensk and Monastyrshchinsky districts , for 118 km. The source is located on the southern slope of the Smolensk Upland southeast of the village of Korytnya, Smolensk region. The direction of the current is south-southeast. The mouth in the Mogilev region opposite the village of Ponarv. The channel is winding.

History

In 1386, in a battle on the Vikhra River, the Lithuanian commander Skirgailo defeated the army of Smolensk Prince Svyatoslav Ivanovich , who tried to return the Principality of Mstislav . In 1708, one of the battles with the Swedes in the Northern War took place on the river in the Monastyrshchinsky district.

In 2013, at the bottom of the Vikhra River, near Mstislavl , a complete set of uniform for a knight of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was found. The find is in the Mstislav Museum [2] [3] .
