Lystra

Lystra ( Greek τὰ Λύστρα ) is a city in Lycaonia , on the territory of modern Turkey .

Lystra is located 30 kilometers south-west of the city of Konya and north of the village of Hatunsaray. The small Khatunsaray Museum houses artifacts from ancient Lystra.

Lystra is the ancient name of the city. The modern name is Klister, which is located in Konya district in the region of Meram. ^[1] Now there are the ruins of the city, an ancient church with a large cross on the wall, a winery, etc.

The city was visited 3 times by the apostle Paul ( Acts 14: 6-21 , 2 Tim. 3:11 ). In Lystra, the Apostle Paul and Barnabas were recognized by pagans for the gods (Hermes and Zeus, ( Acts 14:12 ), because of the miraculous healing of the lame, and they even wanted to sacrifice to them, so the apostles barely convinced the people to give up their blasphemous intention. But soon after of this, the inhabitants of Lystra heeded the beliefs of unbelieving Jews with remarkable frivolity and almost stoned the apostle Paul to death, so that being taken for the deceased, he was already taken out of the city ( Acts 14: 19-20 ) .After that, the apostle again came to Lystra and preaching here ( Acts 14:21 ). Much later, he again visited Lystra, where the Christian community was already located and met here or in the neighboring city of Dervia with Timothy ( Acts 16: 1-3 , 2 Tim. 3:11 ). The location of Lystra is determined by the locality: Bin-bir Kilisa (one thousand and one church), and the other by the village of Latik or Ladik, on the eastern slope of the high Karadag mountain, where there are many remarkable and large ruins, as already assumed from the Christian era. Bishop Pavel Listriisky was present at the first Council of Constantinople (in 381 ), along with 12 other Lycaonian bishops.
