Creativity
As a poet formed in line with European modernism, T. S. Eliot had a special influence. Haavikko owns poetry books “Roman Nights” ( 1951 ), “Winter Palace” ( 1959 ), drama “Munchausen” ( 1960 ), “Audun and the Polar Bear” (1967), “Agricola and the Fox” (1968), “The King Goes” to France ”(1974),“ Anastasia and I ”( 1992 ),“ Prospero ”( 1995 ).
The author of several librettos, including the opera The Horseman of the composer Aulis Sallinen .
Recognition
Honorary Doctor of the University of Helsinki ( 1969 ). Eino Leino Prize ( 1963 ), Neustadt Literary Prize ( 1984 ). The texts of Haavikko wrote music by Aulis Sallinen , Tapani Lansiyo , Chin Eunsuk .
