Vladimir Semenovich Batshev (born June 4, 1947 , Moscow ) is a Russian writer, poet and prose writer. Former Soviet dissident.

Biography
In 1965-1966 he was one of the organizers and leaders of the SMOG informal literary society, editor of the Sphinxes magazine (No. 1-4), the almanacs Chu, Ricochet, and Vanguard.
Arrested on April 21, 1966 and April 25, 1966 sentenced to five years "for parasitism." He was serving a link in the village of Bolshoi Uluy, Krasnoyarsk Territory . Under pressure from international public opinion, in particular, the Posev publishing house, was released in 1968 under an amnesty. In 1968-1975 participated in the dissident movement. In 1969, together with V. Kononenko, he published the samizdat almanac Fracture.
He graduated from the scriptwriting department of VGIK . He worked as a screenwriter in films, as a literary consultant in the journal Student Meridian, in the publishing houses Children's Literature and Young Guard . In 1989 - 1991 - representative of the Sowing publishing house in the USSR .
1991–1993 - First Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Literary News weekly. 1993–1995 head of the Mosty publishing house, which he managed to publish 25 books of Russian and Russian foreign authors in two years. From January 1989 to March 1995 - freelance columnist for Radio Liberty .
In February 1995, he emigrated to Germany with his wife. Member of the German Writers Union and the international PEN Club. German citizen.
- Since April 1998 - editor of the monthly magazine " Literary European " and
- Since January 2004 - editor of the quarterly magazine " Bridges ".
- Chairman of the Union of Russian Writers in Germany.
Prizes
In 2005 , Batshev was awarded the Veritas International Literary Prize (Great Britain) for the epic “Vlasov”.
In 2006, the novel, “Descendant of Bathsheba,” was nominated for the Booker - Open Russia Prize.
In 2007 he became the first owner of a new award to them. M. Aldanova , established by the New Magazine ( New York ) for the story "Heinz Alvenhauser."
In 2010, for the books SMOG: A Generation with Broken Legs and My French Uncle, he was awarded the Silver Bullet from the Volny Shooter publishing house.
