After graduating from vocational schools in 1925, he worked as an electrical engineer. From 1927, R. L. Diament worked as a freelance correspondent in the editorial offices of Kiev newspapers. In 1931 he became a full-time employee of the newspaper "Young Proletarian". In 1934, he moved to the editorial office of the newspaper Vesti CEC of the Ukrainian SSR.

During World War II, R.L. Diament served in the Northern Fleet as a photojournalist, head of the photo bureau of the Fleet Administration.

After demobilization, he worked under treaties for the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition, performed tasks for the Anti-Fascist Committee of Soviet Women, the editorial staff of the Club and Artistic Amateur magazine, Vocational Education and Production Training magazines, and his photographs were published in magazines: Ogonyok , Soviet Union, Soviet Photo ”,“ Health ”,“ Worker ”,“ Behind the wheel ”, etc., on the pages of photo albums, were exhibited in military museums of Moscow, Kiev, Leningrad, Murmansk, Polar, Severomorsk, Vaengi, etc.

Photos of R. L. Diament participated in photo exhibitions in the USSR and abroad. R. L. Diament has been a member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR since 1967.

He was awarded two Orders of the Red Star , the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, medals " For the Defense of the Soviet Arctic " and " For the Victory over Germany " and commemorative medals [1] [2] .
