National Center for Biotechnological Information USA ( Eng. National Center for Biotechnological Information, NCBI ).
It was founded in 1988 in Bethesda (Maryland, USA) as the central institute for the processing and storage of molecular biology data. It is part of the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM ), a subsection of the National Institutes of Health ( NIH ).
The center is led by , one of the authors of the BLAST local alignment search program and a widely recognized professional in the field of bioinformatics . He also directs the scientific programs of the center, including scientific groups of (co-author of the BLAST program), David Landsman, Eugene Kunin .
NCBI provides information on databases of protein domains, DNA ( GenBank ) and RNA , databases of scientific articles ( PubMed ) and taxonomic information ( TaxBrowser ), provides data search for a specific biological species ( Taxonomy ). Also contains various standard bioinformatics programs ( BLAST ). Databases are available through the Entrez search engine.

Every year, under the auspices of the NCBI, seminars and scientific conferences are held on the problems of molecular biology, genetics, and biomedicine. NCBI is engaged in educational activities, including on-line.
