Transport in Hungary

Transport is a key element of Hungary's infrastructure.

In Hungary, infrastructure has been created for:

  • railway transport;
  • vehicles;
  • air transportation;
  • water transport.

The length of the transport network is 202.7 thousand km.

The length of railways is 7.8 thousand km (electrified - 31%). Leading railway company - Magyar Államvasútak Zrt.

In Budapest, the three main railway stations are East (Keleti) , West (Nyugati) and South (Déli) , with other remote stations such as Kelenföld. Of these three, the South Station is the most modern, but the East and West are more decorative and have interesting architecture. Other important railway stations located throughout the country include Szolnok (the most important railway crossing outside Budapest), the Tiszai railway station in Miskolc and the stations of Pecs , Gyor , Szeged and Szekesfehervar .

The only city with an underground railway system is Budapest with its metro.

In Budapest there is also a suburban rail service called HÉV .

In Hungary, there are such freeways: M0 - M1 - M2 - M15 - M3 - M30 - M35 - M5 - M6 - M7 - M70.

    • Paved: 81,950 km (including 1,013 km of motorways, 2007)
    • Unpowered: 106,523 km (estimate 1998.)

New sections of the freeway are being added to the existing network, and it already connects many major economically important cities to the capital.

Large river ports have been built in Hungary in the cities of Budapest , Dunaujváros and Baia .

There are about 43–45 airports in Hungary, including also small ones (1999 estimate). Of these, five are international - Budapest - Ferihegy , the airport in Debrecen , the airport in Charmelek (also named FlyBalaton due to its proximity to Lake Balaton , the sights of Hungary number one), Gyor Per and Pech Pogan . The Hungarian airline Malev flies to more than 60 cities (mainly Europe).

Tram

Tram lines in Budapest are the busiest in the world. The interval at rush hour is about four minutes [1] . Part of the routes is the same as in 1887, when the first electric trams were launched. Budapest ordered 40 low-floor Siemens trams. Trams began to carry passengers on July 1, 2006, but during the first weeks there were many technical difficulties. Operating models: Tatra T5C5 , Tatra T6A2 , Tatra KT8D5 , Ganz CSMG2 , TW 6000 , Combino Supra NF12B , KCSV7 , Ganz KCSV6-1S , HCS-10a , FVV 1200 , Schlick L , SGP E1 , Lohner c3 .

In the capital of Hungary, the Budapest Metro operates , which includes 40 stations, and the length of the lines is 31.7 km.
