Leningradsky District (Kaliningrad)

The Leningrad district - one of the three (until 2009 - five) intra-city administrative districts of Kaliningrad , until 2009 was the largest district of the city, now inferior to other areas in area, but is the first in terms of population [2] . The area of ​​the district is 53.7 km², the population is 173,905 [1] people. (2017). The district includes the villages of Pervomaisky and Oktyabrskoye. The area was formed on July 25, 1947 by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR.

Geography

The Leningrad district is located on the territory of the former Konigsberg regions of Rotenstein, Maraunenhof , Lip, Kummerau, Kalthof, Palve and Devau. The area borders with the Moscow , Central districts of Kaliningrad and the Guryevsky district of the Kaliningrad region .

The building of the administration of the Leningrad region

The district administration is led by the head of the administration. In the absence of the head of administration, one of the deputies shall exercise his authority. Since 2011, the acting head of the administration is Albert Tagintsev [15] . The administration of the district is subordinate to the administration of the city of Kaliningrad.

Transport

Several major highways of the city are located in the Leningradsky district - first of all, Moskovsky Prospekt , which runs from west to east almost the entire city, and then goes onto the A229 highway connecting Kaliningrad with Sovetsky , A. Nevsky street leading to Khrabrovo airport, street Yuri Gagarin, connecting the center of Kaliningrad with the villages of Maloye Isakovo, Vasilkovo and Guryevsk .

In the Leningrad region developed urban passenger transport. Tram routes No. 1 and 5 connect it with other areas of the city. Trolleybus route No. 7 runs on the territory of the district, connecting its northern and eastern parts with the city center. Bus service is also well developed. The only problem when moving around the Leningradsky district may be traffic jams, which are especially frequent on Gorky and Narvskaya streets, leading to the new bedroom residential district of Selma.

Attractions

Leningrad district is located in the geographical center of the city. In the pre-war years, the Old Town and many architectural monuments were located on its territory, primarily the Royal Castle of Koenigsberg . Some of them have survived to the present day:

There are 14 ponds and lakes in the district, including the city’s famous reservoirs: Lake Superior (formerly Oberteich), Lower Pond (formerly Castle Pond).

Education

The district has 14 schools, 18 preschool institutions, as well as the Baltic State Academy and the Kaliningrad Sea Lyceum.

Museum of History and Art

In the Leningrad region are:

  • Kaliningrad State Art Gallery ( Moskovsky Prospect , 60-62). The art gallery was founded in 1988 . Her collection includes works of painting, graphics, sculpture and objects of decorative art. Eight exhibition halls of the gallery annually hold up to 30 exhibitions and art projects in conjunction with museums in Russia and Europe, Kaliningrad, Russian and foreign authors, organize scientific conferences and art plein airs. The gallery has a lecture hall, a library, a children's art studio.
  • Kaliningrad Regional Museum of History and Art (Klinicheskaya St., 21). The Museum of History and Art was founded as a museum of local lore in 1946 . Since 1991, the museum has been located in the reconstructed building of the former Stadthalle city concert hall. The eleven exhibition halls of the museum have permanent and temporary exhibitions.
  • Amber Museum .
  • German-Russian House (street Yalta, 2-a). The German-Russian House hosts concerts of the Kaliningrad Symphony Orchestra, literary readings, exhibitions, theatrical evenings.
  • Kaliningrad University Botanical Garden (Lesnaya-Molodezhnaya St.). The Botanical Garden is located on the territory of the former city Koenigsberg gardening, founded in 1904 by Paul Käber, a professor at the University of Koenigsberg . Since 1967 , when the garden was transferred to KSU , it is a scientific division of the university. The garden covers an area of ​​13.57 hectares; its collection includes more than 2500 plants.
