Biography
Princess Margaret was born on August 21, 1930 at Glamis Castle, in Scotland . She was the youngest daughter of George VI and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon . The princess was baptized in the chapel of Buckingham Palace . Her godfather was her father's elder brother - the future Edward VIII , and her godmother - Ingrid , nee Princess of Sweden, Queen of Denmark a few years later. In 1936, her uncle Edward VIII abdicated and Father Margaret became king. Throughout her childhood, she was raised with her sister and her mentors. During World War II, Margaret remains in the Windsor Palace , despite the numerous bombardments of London.
In 1953, Princess Margaret met with Captain Peter Townsend . He was not a nobleman, but was a member of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain and therefore was admitted to Buckingham Palace and the royal family. But he was divorced and had children, which made impossible a marriage project with Princess Margaret: the Anglican church and royal traditions prohibit marriage to a divorced person. To marry with the captain, Princess Margaret would have to, in accordance with the rules of the royal court, reach 25 years of age, renounce her royal title and the cost of her maintenance. After the affair, which lasted several years, Margaret publicly announced her breakup with Peter “in view of her obligations to her country.”
Margaret became the target of the paparazzi because of her advantageous position and unusual behavior for a member of the royal family. She was noticed in the company of John Turner , who later became the Prime Minister of Canada .
On May 6, 1960, the princess married Anthony Armstrong-Jones (1930 - 2017), a photographer, a descendant of a small Welsh noble family, who received the titles of Count Snowdon and Viscount Linley.
In this marriage two children were born:
- David Armstrong-Jones (b. November 3, 1961) - Viscount Linley, since 2017 - 2nd Earl of Snowdon.
- Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones (b. May 1, 1964).
In 1978, the Count and Countess Snowdon divorced due to the romance of Princess Margaret with Baronet Roddy Llewellyn.
Margaret was nicknamed the “rebellious princess” because of her scandalous behavior: she became a regular in London clubs and appeared in the society of rockers. Since the eighties, she has had serious health problems. The press stated that she smokes up to 60 cigarettes a day and is addicted to gin.
In 2002, Margaret died of a stroke .
In 2005, a film about the life of the princess “ Princess Margaret, a Love Story ”, based on many rumors compromising her, was released.

Notes:
- Lilac color - monarchs;
- Green - members of the House of the Windsor (descendants of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in a direct male line, as well as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in a straight male line, except for married women);
- Numbers - serial numbers in the line of succession to the throne;
- * - a person is excluded from the inheritance of the throne due to membership in the Catholic Church;
- Siblings are placed in birth order. In determining the order of succession to the throne, younger brothers have an advantage over older sisters. However, for those born after October 28, 2011, this rule no longer applies: for them, the succession order is determined only by seniority (in practice, of the living, the change affected only Tanya (33) and Senna (32) Lewis, as well as Rufus (36) and Laila ( 35) Gilman, who swapped in pairs in order of succession).
