History
The city of Taurus was founded in 1700 . K. I. Arseniev wrote: [1]
| In the lower parts of Voronezh or near the mouth of this river, Peter the Great in 1700 founded the city of Taurus, surrounded at the same time by a fortress; he transferred the shipyard and the Admiralty from Voronezh because of the frequent shallowing of the fairway, established an extensive state-owned cloth factory here, and generally wanted to put this city on the level of the most important places in the state. |
The historian Zagorovsky V. P. claims that the Tavrov shipyard was founded by F. M. Apraksin on June 1, 1705 by order of Peter I [2] .
July 14, 1721 in the city earned a cloth factory [2] . which belonged to the state. In 1726, it was bought from the treasury and transferred to Voronezh by 8 nobles and merchants of this city. At that time, there were already hairy and leather factories in Voronezh.
In May 1736, thanks to the ships built in Tavrov [2] , a victory was won over the Turks, as a result of which Azov again became a Russian city.
After the founding of Osereda (later Pavlovsk), Tavrov began to decline [1] . In 1740 - 1741, the construction of ships in Tavrov was discontinued [2] .
In 1744, Tavrov burned [2] . The fire actually destroyed the city. Most of its residents moved to Voronezh. Thus, the rivalry between Voronezh and Tavrov was over.
