Name Origin

The name is from the 18th century . In the middle of the 19th century , the Khlynovsky stupid lane was called [1] . There are two versions of the origin of the name:

  • It was named after the tract Hlynovo located in the 15th century at the place of the dead end [2] .
  • It is named after the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker , who was in the St. Nicholas Vvedensky convent , which existed in this place until the Time of Troubles . This icon was taken out of the city of Khlynov in 1555 (later - Vyatka, now Kirov ) [3] .

History

Initially, it was an alley that ran from Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street to the modern Eliseevsky Alley . In 1756, General-General A. M. Leontyev captured part of the Hlynovsky Lane for his estate and turned it into a dead end [4] . In 1781-1788, on the left side of the dead end, instead of the old church, which stands on the site of the St. Nicholas Vvedensky Monastery, a new building of the Church of the Introduction to the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built [3] . The Church of the Introduction was demolished in 1936 and a school building was built in its place.
