Juan Bautista de Anse
Juan Bautista de Anza ( Spanish: Juan Bautista de Anza ) (July 1736 - December 19 , 1788 ) - Spanish traveler, Basque in origin. Explored southern and central California , chose a place for the future city of San Francisco . Governor of the Mexican province of New Mexico from August 24, 1777 to 1788. He carried out punitive campaigns against the Comanches in 1779 and 1783 [1] [2] [3] .
