History
Until 1941
In the XVIII century, the village was named Solovyov in honor of Ivan Solovyov - the engineer who created the Smolensk road , paving the old seasonal road with rubble. Residents of the surrounding villages, under the leadership of Ivan Glinka, built two floating bridges across the Dnieper. In August 1812, the army of Barclay de Tolly fought here the battle of Napoleon’s army, and then in the fall, during the pursuit of the French army, the detachments of Count Orlov-Denisov fought the rearguard of Marshal Ney .
1941-1945 years
Since mid-July 1941, the Solovyov crossing was the only place through which material and technical support was provided to the troops of the Western Front in the Smolensk region.
