On the eastern slopes of the Talysh Mountains, subtropical broad-leaved forests of the Hyrcanic type grow, alternating at a height of about 600 m with beech , oak and hornbeam , and in the highlands - meadow - steppe vegetation; xerophyte communities grow on the western slopes of the mountains.
On the territory of the Talysh Mountains there is a section of the Girkan National Park , formed in 2003 on the site of the Girkan State Reserve, in which the relict forest of the Tertiary period (Flora hyrcana) grows.
In the east, the Talysh Mountains are separated from the Caspian Sea by the Talysh Lowland , which, like the entire Caspian coast, lies 28 m below sea level. The Lesser Caucasus and the Talysh Mountains serve as a connecting link between the Pontic mountains in the north of Asia Minor and the Iranian Elburs Range .
They are composed of flash and volcanic strata with intrusions of the main rocks.
Administratively, on the territory of Azerbaijan, the Talysh Mountains are located in Astara , Lankaran , Lerik , Masalli , Yardimli and Jalilabad regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as in Nama , Astara , Fumansk , Masalsky , Kolursky and Masulinsky shahrestani of Iran .
In the Talysh Mountains region near the city of Lankaran, there are the Khaftoninsky and Khavzovinsky hot mineral springs , near the city of Masalli there are Arkevan hot mineral springs , not far from the city of Astara there are thermal water outcrops to the surface.
