History

Palace of Sports

Built in 1958-1960 (architects Mikhail Grechina and Alexey Zavarov , engineers V. I. Repyakh and S. Chudnovskaya). Opened December 9, 1960.

The structural basis of the 4-story building (length - 138 m, width - 78 m, height - 18.5 m, total volume - 209 thousand m³) is a reinforced concrete frame. The facades of the palace are transparent walls made of glass separated by a slender row of columns of the frame and horizontal stripes of aluminum panels. The stands, rectangular in terms of the auditorium (66x102 m) in the original version, accommodated from 8,236 to 11,712 people. Sports arena (30x61 m) - on a reinforced concrete slab; it can be used for competitions in 30 sports, including winter. It is planned to turn the sports arena into a stalls, and the scenes into a tribune. The Sports Palace is equipped with sophisticated engineering equipment for lighting and acoustics, powerful compressors for air conditioning.

In 1980-1982, the Sports Palace was reconstructed (by the Kievproject Institute and the Kiev Zonal Research Institute of Experimental Design). Lighting and technical facilities underwent almost complete modernization - they expanded and otherwise illuminated the interiors and halls, equipped the palace with numerous locker rooms and buffets.

In 2004-2005, in preparation for the Eurovision music contest, the palace also underwent reconstruction, which increased the number of seats to 8,000. During sporting events, the maximum number of spectators is 6,800.

On April 16, 2011, the opening ceremony of the Sports Palace was held, which has been under reconstruction since October 2010. The reconstruction of the arena was carried out in preparation for the World Hockey Championship in the First Division. As part of the reconstruction, the backstage space was completely refurbished, six sports locker rooms were equipped, the hall lighting was modernized, the ventilation, air conditioning, heating and fire safety systems were completely replaced. In addition, a modern four-way display has appeared above the arena. The stands are equipped with plastic seats in the colors of the national flag: the total number of seats is 6900 spectators (sports version). The concert version with stalls will consist of 9800 seats [1] .

The Sports Palace gave the name to the metro station of the same name .

Video Board

The electronic scoreboard of the Sports Palace is a cube of four EKTA LED screens. The iLVM 9C screen model was specifically designed for the Kiev Sports Palace. Screens, the dimensions of which are 3.9 x 3.1 meters each, were manufactured at the EKTA factory in Zhitomir .

Screens are made on full-color Nichia SMD LEDs. Number of colors: up to 281 trillion (48 bit). Real viewing angle: horizontal - 150 °, vertical - 150 °. Minimum comfortable observation distance: from 8 m. Resource (lifetime):> 100,000 hours.

Video screens are controlled by two ERMAC / SPU-005 systems. ERMAC is equipped with an 18-bit video processing system, provides operation of five independent video channels, supports true HD (1080p, RGB 10bit). In the future, this will increase the number of video screens in the Sports Palace without changing the configuration of the control system.

LED screens are designed for use during any sports, as well as during concerts and show programs [2] .
