History
Botanical Garden was organized [ when? ] on the initiative of A.N. Beketov , who made a great contribution not only to the formation, but also to the development of the botanical garden.
Since 1935, the Botanical Garden of Leningrad State University is a monument of the history of culture and art and is under state protection. Thanks to the staff of the university who continued to work during the Great Patriotic War , the garden collection was preserved during the years of the blockade . As a dendrological park and botanical garden, the Botanical Garden of St. Petersburg State University is a specially protected natural area of federal significance. [one]

Nowadays, the University Botanical Garden has a number of greenhouses with the following collections:
- coniferous plants
- cacti
- succulents
- wetland plants
- rare and protected plants of the local flora
- subtropical plants of Europe and Southeast Asia
- subtropical plants of Australia
- subtropical plants of the Americas
- tropical plants
- tropical ferns
- ornamental annuals and perennials.
Total collection of the botanical garden has more than 4,600 species of plants.
